López Obrador wins, but what this means for 2006 is open to question

Andrés Manuel López Obrador has won. After he attracted the support of hundreds of thousands on the streets of Mexico, he was able to sit back and watch President Vicente Fox beat a hasty retreat from his ostensibly arms-length handling of the legal proceedings against him, and even promise publicly, if obliquely, to guarantee that he will be able to run for the presidency in 2006. This outcome will have many repercussions, not all of them obvious.
