In Brief – Argentina

Argentina | EU office bombed. At 2.45am local time (6.45am BST) on 1 May a homemade bomb exploded outside the local office of the European Union (EU) in Buenos Aires. The explosion caused some damage to the building but nobody was reported injured. The Argentine government immediately stated that it “condemns the act, as well as all forms of violence”. The attack came amid escalating tension between Buenos Aires and London over the Falklands/Malvinas archipelago and between Buenos Aires and Madrid over the former’s re-nationalisation of Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales (YPF), the local subsidiary of the Spanish oil company Repsol.
