Chile | Hinzpeter off the hook. On 2 May the Chilean lower house of congress threw out a constitutional accusation (i.e. impeachment) filed by opposition deputies against Minister of Interior Rodrigo Hinzpeter for allegedly ordering the use of excessive force during violent confrontations between protesters and security forces in the southern region of Aysén. Hinzpeter reacted by saying: “I have the satisfaction that the vast majority of the deputies have stopped an unfounded accusation”.
