Colombia’s political shock wave moves south

The Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) made sure that the country’s security forces and media were busier in late April and early May than at any time to date this year. Their actions have given political ammunition to former President Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010), who fervently promoted President Juan Manuel Santos as his preferred successor but has since become the Santos administration's most vocal critic. While Santos's approval ratings have fallen in recent months from their previous stratospheric highs [RA-12-04], it is unclear if the Uribista hard-liners will benefit.
