NICARAGUA-COLOMBIA: Freelancer caught spying for Bogotá in Managua

On 12 June in Managua Nicaraguan police arrested a Colombian national, Luis Felipe Ríos Castaño, and accused him of spying for his country’s military high command. Also arrested were two Nicaraguan army officers who were accused of treason for having sold classified information to Ríos Castaño. Though all those involved have admitted their guilt, the Colombian side of this episode has yet to be clarified, and there are indications that it may prove highly embarrassing for the government of President Juan Manuel Santos.
