ECUADOR: Correa guns for majority

Rafael Correa officially began his electoral campaign this week as a mere candidate, having temporarily relinquished the title of president to his vice-president Lenín Moreno in the run-up to elections on 17 February. Opinion polls suggest that he should win at a canter. Correa is determined to secure not just his re-election, however, but also a coveted majority for his ruling party Alianza País (AP) in the national assembly to expedite the passage of a “progressive” reform agenda he argues is intrinsic to his citizens’ revolution.
