President Otto Pérez Molina’s star has yet to wane. A poll released this week to coincide with the anniversary of his first year in office gave him a 70% approval rate – the highest of the last four presidents. This despite incidents such as the killing of indigenous protesters by soldiers in Totonicapán last October [WR-12-40]. In his one year balance sheet, Pérez Molina flagged up significant achievements with regard to his two declared priorities – public security and food security.
