POLITICS | New ministers sworn in. On 9 June President Sebastián Piñera swore in Bruno Baranda and Roberto Ampuero as his new ministers for social development and culture, respectively. Baranda, of Piñera's political party Renovación Nacional, moves from his post as deputy labour secretary, while Ampuero, a well-known writer, was serving as ambassador to Mexico, a post he had held since January 2012. They fill vacancies left by Joaquín Lavín and Luciano Cruz-Coke, who both stepped down on 6 June to help out with the presidential primary campaigns for the former economy minister, Pablo Longueira, and the former defence minister, Andrés Allamand.
