PANAMA: Presidential candidates face corruption probe

The attorney general's office announced this week that it would open investigations into Balbina Herrera, the presidential candidate for the ruling Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD), and Ricardo Martinelli, the current frontrunner representing the opposition Alianza por Cambio. The announcement comes after allegations made last week by the jailed Colombian financier, David Murcia Guzmán, that he had contributed to campaign funding for the PRD [WR-09-11].
