Last week the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, paid his first visit to Haiti since President Michel Martelly took office in May 2011. While Ban hailed significant gains as regards development, his visit - which he described as a “necessary pilgrimage” - made headlines due to his remarks regarding the cholera outbreak which began in 2010.
