La alianza opositora Team Unity, liderado por Timothy Harris ganó las elecciones generales el 16 de febrero, poniendo fin a dos décadas de gobierno del Primer Ministro Denzil Douglas y su partido St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP). Esto, a pesar que el país de dos islas (población 54.191 habitantes) registró el cuarto más alto nivel de crecimiento en el Caribe, según estimaciones preliminares de la Comisión Económica para América Latina y El Caribe (Cepal) de la ONU.
