EU trade deal. On 30 May Mexico and the European Union (EU) announced that they had agreed to open negotiations to update the trade chapter of their bilateral Association Agreement (which also includes political and cooperation chapters) starting in June. The Mexico-EU trade accord has been in place since 2000 but for the past few years Mexico has expressed an interest in updating the agreement to expand its access to the European market, particularly in the service sector, and to be able to take part in public tender processes. This interest has been reciprocated by the EU.
