Kirchnerismo under pressure over corruption

On 14 July, an Argentine judge ordered the seizure of more than US$4.6m from a bank safety deposit box belonging to the daughter of former president Cristina Fernández (2007-2015), Florencia Kirchner, as part of an investigation into money laundering. It was the latest in a series of investigative measures against alleged corruption by the Kirchner family and former government officials in the Fernández administration, and the cumulative effect has led to a haemorrhaging of public support among erstwhile Kirchneristas. The former president herself, however, remains characteristically defiant, describing the proceedings as a “media stunt”.
