Fernández fighting legal battle on the streets

Although he is not directly involved in the legal battle being fought by former president Cristina Fernández (2007-2015), Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri could end up facing the most serious sentence. On 6 March Fernández made another, now almost routine, half-hour appearance before the court of federal judge Claudio Bonadio to give evidence in one of the four corruption cases against her. Fernández had been accompanied by her supporters during previous court appearances; this time she had sent out Twitter messages beforehand requesting that they stay away and instead attend the mobilisation rally the following day by Argentina’s main umbrella trade union, the Confederación General del Trabajo (CGT), causing political difficulties for Macri.
