Peru is poised to become the latest Latin American country to legalise the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. In late February, the government led by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski submitted a bill to congress that seeks to legalise the importation, sale and use of marijuana and its derivative products for medicinal purposes. Given that the legalisation of medicinal marijuana enjoys support across the political spectrum, the prospects that the bill will be approved are good and Peru may soon join the likes of Uruguay, Mexico, Chile and Colombia which have led the growing regional trend towards the legalisation of marijuana.
