Chile: Military glass ceiling shattered

Female members of the Chilean military will henceforth be able to secure promotion to the position of brigadier general in the army, which President Michelle Bachelet described as a major breakthrough: “We can now say, at last, that there are no areas sealed off to women. With this there is now the definite possibility that sooner rather than later a female military official could become commander-in-chief of the Chilean army.”
