Re-thinking Mexico’s education policy

Education Minister Aurelio Nuño Mayer, has pledged to revolutionise Mexico’s antiquated education system and bring teaching into the 21st century. Nuño launched a new national educational model on 13 March in the latest stage of the government’s 2013-2014 education reform, considered one of President Enrique Peña Nieto’s most important structural reforms. Academics and educational analysts have broadly welcomed the proposed changes to the old education system, but are asking whether the government’s updated model will make the grade or will be more of a rhetorical exercise.
