Mexico: ‘Peace index’ pointing the wrong way

Mexico has become 4.3% less peaceful, the first such decline in five years, according to the 2017 ‘Mexico Peace Index’ (MPI) published by the Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). While the accuracy or meaningfulness of a single number as an indicator of levels of peace in a country may be open to debate, the report notes important trends making the country less secure, such as an 18% increase in the homicide rate last year.
