A fresh point of contention with Chile

The imprisonment of nine Bolivian nationals by the Chilean authorities is serving as the latest bone of contention in relations between the two countries. These remain fraught over Bolivia’s historic claim of access to the Pacific, lost to Chile in the 1879-1883 War of the Pacific, a case currently before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague.
