Tensions fray as key elections approach

Heading into the home stretch there is a genuine possibility that June’s gubernatorial elections could deliver a major shock: defeat for the nationally ruling Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) in Mexico’s most populous state, the Estado de México (Edomex), for the first time in 90 years. This would be a body blow for the PRI, from which it would struggle to recover in time for the 2018 general election. The big question is who might deliver the blow.
