Targeting the Sinaloa DTO

Just months after the recapture of the Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán Loera, the historic leader of the Sinaloa/Pacífico drug trafficking organisation (DTO), Mexican law enforcement has succeeded in capturing his suspected successor. The arrest of Dámaso ‘El Licenciado’ López Núñez has been celebrated as another major blow to organised crime in the country. However, local analysts have warned that it will produce more instability in the criminal underworld and further fuel violence in the state of Sinaloa, as other criminals seek to fill the power vacuum.
