Guatemala and Honduras prepare to launch customs union

Guatemala’s President Jimmy Morales last month met his Honduran peer, Juan Orlando Hernández, in the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa, where the two confirmed that a joint customs union would be launched on 26 July aimed at boosting trade and strengthening their respective economies. The new customs union (for which the agreement establishing it was signed in February 2015) is the first in Central America and has been hailed as a significant step forward in regional integration efforts.
