Moreno maintains mining focus

President Lenín Moreno is showing no signs of rolling back the expansion of the mining industry undertaken by the administration of his predecessor Rafael Correa (2007-2017) despite reaching out to indigenous organisations who vigorously oppose this policy. Firstly, Moreno kept in place the mining minister, Javier Córdova, who served under Correa and took charge of the standalone ministry in February 2015. Secondly, Córdova is forecasting that the mining sector will become the country’s main engine of growth.
