Progress and setbacks for LGBTI rights

Marches in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) rights were held across Brazil and the Southern Cone last month, as part of international Pride Month. The sub-region is widely considered to be one of the most progressive in the world, where LGBTI rights are concerned. Uruguay is ranked joint 12th in the most recent (2017) Spartacus Gay Travel Index, making it the most LGBTI-friendly country in Latin America. Meanwhile the last year has seen some progress amongst the less liberal countries of the Southern Cone, notably Chile.
