* The national statistics institute (Ibge) has reported that the national unemployment rate fell to 13% in April-June this year. During that period, 13.5m people were unemployed. This is down from the 13.3% national unemployment rate registered in March-May when 14.2m people were jobless. In a statement, Finance Minister Henrique Meirelles said that he expected unemployment levels to continue falling as domestic economic activity picks up again in the second half of 2017. “Falling inflation levels should increase domestic spending. This will help consumption increase and will fuel more investment, meaning businesses hire more people”, Meirelles said.
