Homicides fall in El Salvador, but remain high

Development: On 31 December, El Salvador’s national civil police force (PNC) reported that 3,954 murders had taken place in the country in 2017, a 25% reduction on the 5,280 committed in 2016 – the second most violent year since the country’s internal armed conflict (1979-1992) ended.
