In brief: Colombia, Peru

Colombia: The national coffee sellers’ association (FNC) has reported the country exported 13.1m sacks of coffee in 2017, up 2% on the 12.8m sacks sold in 2016. However, exports fell 5% in December 2017 compared with the same period the previous year to 1.3m sacks. Colombia’s coffee production remained stable at 14.2m sacks in 2017, which is roughly the same as the amount recorded in 2016. For 2018, the FNC aims to increase Colombia’s coffee production by another 3m sacks through investing in plantations, growing more varieties of coffee which give a greater yield, and by choosing varieties which are more resilient to disease.
