The Chalchihuitán-Chenalhó indigenous land dispute drags on

According to recent media reports, about 5,000 indigenous people from Mexico’s southern state of Chiapas have fled their communities in recent months because they were being threatened by armed groups. This is the story of thousands of indigenous peoples from the communities of Chalchihuitán and Chenalhó which have been involved in a long-running land dispute. The conflict provides a glimpse into what are some of the threats faced by Mexico’s indigenous communities today.
