Peru: Peruvians protest against Fujimori’s release

On Christmas eve, just before Peruvians settled down for dinner, some unexpected news broke. President Pedro Pablo Kuczynksi pardoned authoritarian former president Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) from opposition party Fuerza Popular (FP), who had been sentenced to 25 years in prison for human rights abuses and corruption. The release of this political titan has undermined confidence in the president, who was elected on an anti-Fujimori ticket, and sparked protests.
