In brief: Ecuador

Ecuador: The government led by President Lenín Moreno has accepted the resignation of mining minister Javier Córdova Unda. He had been in the post since the ministry was created in February 2015 by Moreno’s predecessor Rafael Correa (2007-2017), tasked with promoting the sector. Córdova did not give official reasons for his decision but it comes ahead of the national plebiscite on 4 February over a number of reforms that Moreno wants to pursue – including whether to promote large scale mining or not.
