Venezuela’s opposition coalition Mesa de la Unidad Democrática (MUD) held a fourth round of a national dialogue process with the government this week. The dialogue process appeared to be dead in the water after the government-controlled constituent assembly (ANC) announced last week that the presidential elections would be brought forward from December and held before the end of April. But, after the supreme court (TSJ) ordered the national electoral council (CNE) to bar the MUD from competing in the elections, the divided coalition decided that it had no choice but to return to the dialogue table to lodge a formal protest and to try and salvage some kind of electoral accord.End of preview - This article contains approximately 1027 words.
