Although the forging of broad electoral alliances in Mexico ahead of the 2018 general election is causing a lot of noise in the press and in market forecasts they are not new. In 1988, Mexican politics watched the formation of an inter-party alliance, with the Frente Democrático Nacional (FDN) launching the engineer Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano as its presidential candidate.
