LatinNews Regional Monitor: Mexico - 08 February 2018

In brief: Mexico

*The Mexican association of automobile manufacturers (Amia) has reported that total national production reached 349,414 units in January, a 20% year-on-year increase and a new record figure for the month of January. An Amia report attributed the increase in production to a pick-up in demand for Mexican manufactured vehicles in both the US and South America. This resulted in Mexican automobile manufacturers exporting 231,088 vehicles in January, a 9.2% year-on-year increase. Exports to the US increased by 10.1% to 178,667 units, while exports to the rest of Latin America increased by 38.1% to 16,096 units, with exports to Brazil, the main export market in Latin America, increasing by 594%.
