In brief: Paraguay

Paraguay: Yesterday, Paraguay’s president Horacio Cartes opened the so-called “grain corridor” running from a port in the northern city of Concepción to Brazil’s state of Mato Grosso do Sul. This will facilitate the transport of grain and soy between both countries by land, rather than relying on the goods being shipped by sea. The government expects to receive US$12m in investment for the grain corridor, of which US$7.15m has already been received. At present, Paraguay’s infrastructure can receive up to 500 tonnes of grain per hour from lorries compared to 1,400 tonnes per hour by shipment.
