Bachelet’s legacy

Chile’s President Michelle Bachelet will finish her final term with lacklustre approval ratings after her centre-left Nueva Mayoría (NM) coalition lost the 2017 general election. This provides a contrast to 2013, when Bachelet, a former health and defence minister with many other achievements to her name, quit her post as executive director of United Nations Women to run for a second presidential term and won. Today, many Chileans care little for these accomplishments.
