Uruguay: Targeted by foreign criminal gangs
The Southern Hemisphere summer season sees thousands for visitors from around the region visit Uruguay and its seaside resorts. But some visitors are more welcome than others. While tourists help to drive the domestic economy, regional criminal gangs now also appear to be visiting Uruguay to take full advantage of this seasonal affluence. The clearest evidence of this is a recent wave of major thefts attributed to such gangs that have been registered in Uruguay of late.
