Introduction

This edition of the Latin American Regional Report: Mexico & Nafta looks at some factors that could shape the outcome Mexico’s 1 July general election. These range from suspected foreign attempts to influence the vote, to changes in the domestic political landscape, to some apparent shortcomings of the incumbent government’s economic policies. The report also looks at other specific and growing threats to Mexican national security – the rise in oil theft and the increase in femicide cases.
