The grim situation of gender violence in Mexico

Violence in Mexico has exploded since 2004, with more than 200,000 homicides and 30,000 missing people reported, including 25,000 homicides in 2017 on official figures, making it the most violent year in decades. While most of this violence has been linked to clashes between drug trafficking organisations (DTOs) and the security forces tasked with combating them, the violence is affecting the wider society, and women in particular.
