LatinNews Regional Monitor: Mexico - 13 March 2018

In brief: Mexico

*José Ángel Gurría, the secretary-general for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), has called for a second wave of economic reforms in Mexico “to strengthen rule of law, institutions, local governments, formality and social inclusion”. During the ‘Forum OECD Mexico 2018: A Future with Growth and Inclusion’, held in Mexico City on 12 and 13 March, Gurría presented the study ‘Getting It Right: Strategic Priorities for Mexico’, which outlines how Mexico trails behind other OECD countries in key areas including education, healthcare, and security. The Forum intends to “open up a national debate around the subjects of economic, social and environmental challenges that Mexico will face in the coming years”, to help “face inequality in Mexico and improve the wellbeing of its citizens”.
