In brief: Argentina

Argentina: Transport Minister Guillermo Dietrich has unveiled a Ar$15bn (US$741bn) redevelopment plan for the ‘Ministro Pistarini’ international airport in Ezeiza that services Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires. In a press conference, Dietrich said that the redevelopment plan is part of the government’s wider efforts to promote an “air transport revolution” after its decision to open up the domestic market to low-cost airlines. According to Dietrich the redevelopment plan of the Ezeiza airport, Argentina’s main airport, will allow it to increase its passenger handling capacity from the current 10m a year to 17m passenger a year by 2021, when the redevelopment works are set to be concluded. Dietrich also noted that the works at the Ezeiza airport, which will include the building of new runways, a new terminal, a new control tower, and a new carpark, will generate over 4,500 temporary jobs during the construction phase.
