*Brazil’s retail sales grew more than expected at the start of this year thanks to low rates of inflation. In January, retail sales were up 0.9% on the previous month, representing the biggest increase since June 2017 according to the national statistics agency (Ibge). “There is a tendency for more sales and increased business activity. This is a gradual shift because in recent months, retail sales have fluctuated somewhat. But the overall trajectory is positive,” said Ibge economist Isabella Nunes.
