BELIZE: Government suffers electoral setback

Belize held its triennial municipal elections on 7 March. The ruling United Democratic Party (UDP) won the March 2015 contest in a landslide, gaining control of eight of the country’s nine municipalities. The opposition People’s United Party (PUP) was left with control of just one municipality. This time the PUP did better, although it still lost the election. It won three municipalities to the UDP’s six.
