Argentina: The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, said she is “impressed” and “congratulated” the Argentine government led by President Mauricio Macri for its efforts to reduce the fiscal deficit. According to figures released by Argentina's finance ministry on 14 March, the primary fiscal deficit is currently Ar$20.2bn (US$1bn), 24.4% less than the same time the previous year. According to a finance ministry press release, the reduction was explained by a 26.7% increase in income compared with the same point the previous year. Lagarde is in Argentina ahead of a G-20 summit next week and is due to meet President Macri today (15 March).
