Ecuador: President Lenín Moreno has announced his plans for immediate cuts to the government’s budget on his weekly video appearance #ElPresidenteInforma. His planned reductions of “between 5% and 10% are looking for efficiency, but without affecting social services”. These include plans to eliminate Ecuador’s national intelligence secretariat (Senain), which was created in 2009 by President Moreno’s predecessor, Rafael Correa (2007-2017), although President Moreno clarified that “we are working to guarantee the country’s security objectives”.
