BRAZIL: Dog days of the Temer administration

With nine months left to run on the government of President Michel Temer, the administration appears to have little gas left in the tank. Pension reform, repeatedly touted as essential by senior officials, is now off the table, with congressional deputies reluctant to support such an unpopular measure so close to an election. What is left of the economic agenda now looks like “old, cold coffee” in the words of one of the key supporters of the government’s economic reform agenda, House Speaker Rodrigo Maia.
