At least nine former guerrillas who refused to demobilise after the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) signed a peace accord with the government were killed during a joint military and police operation in the southern department of Guaviare this week. One of those killed, known by the alias ‘El Mocho’, was the chief lieutenant of the leader of the Farc’s former Frente Primero, ‘Gentil Duarte’ (Miguel Botache Santillana), who has become the most-wanted man in Colombia.
