Peru: Peru’s new president, Martín Vizcarra, has appointed Edmer Trujillo as his new transport & communications minister. Trujillo replaces Bruno Giuffra, who has been implicated in the corruption scandal involving the offer of pork barrel funds to national legislators in exchange for votes, a scandal that in part led to the resignation of former president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski earlier this month. Trujillo, a former housing & sanitation minister (2016-2017), and until now the head of the technical organisation for the administration of sanitation services (Otass), is the first cabinet appointment made by Vizcarra since he formally assumed office on 23 March to complete Kuczynski’s term ending in 2021. The new president has said that he will announce the rest of his cabinet after Easter, on 2 April.
