Ecuador’s education reform: challenges and achievements

Ecuador’s education reform has been widely recognised as one of the most ambitious and successful in Latin America of the current century. Since 2006, the country has attempted a profound overhaul of the education system, with education defined as a public good and placed at the heart of public administration. While the government led by former president Alfredo Palacio (2005-2007) had already drafted a ten-year education plan (PDE), most of the significant changes took place under the government led by President Rafael Correa (2007-2017).
