* At least 21 people have been killed during an attempted prison break in Belém, the capital of Brazil's northern state of Pará, according to the state department for defence and public security (Segup). An armed group invaded a prison unit at the Complexo Santa Izabel penitentiary to try to rescue inmates, resulting in a shootout with prison guards. Local authorities have not yet confirmed whether any prisoners managed to escape.
