Introduction

Mexico’s need to continue making economic reforms is the main focus of this Latin American Regional Report: Mexico & Nafta. While the outgoing government led by President Enrique Peña Nieto has succeeded in passing some significant structural economic reforms during its six-year term, by no means has Mexico progressed beyond the need to make further major changes to its domestic economy. It will fall upon the new government to identify which reforms are most needed and to try to deliver them. But there is no shortage of opinion on what reforms Mexico should implement in the next few years, and the incoming government will have to analyse all the options.
